So i finally got a chance to listen to Dr. Dre's Beats headphones by Monster.
Yeah, the same Monster that charges $100 for a 4ft HDMI cable -_-
I figured instead of posting a full review, id just sum up my feelings in a nice long rant...
So, bottom line, they're absolute crap. I honestly cant help but laugh at how brainwashed people are. If i had a nickle for the number of teens and preteens who think these cans are The Shit.. Bill Gates would be asking ME for money.
And on top of that, it requires batteries...
As far as the actual sound quality...
The bass is far too heavy. No i don't mean it's capable of producing great bass, I literally mean it sounds EQ'd about 5dB higher around 100hz.Between 500hz and 1,000hz theres a sudden drop, and then around 2,000hz theres a sudden bump in the freq, about 5dB, and then around 4,000hz a drop to about -5dB. (So no they're not flat by any stretch of the imagination) And my god....These are some of the muddiest cans in the low end ive ever heard. Everything just sounds mushed together as if it was all coming from one instrument. Its awful.
It reminds me of Ginos who drive down the street in their Civic blaring their bass... and it comes out as a mixture of mush and vibration. Its not clear. Its not precise. The bass is in no way accurate, but there's plenty of it.
(Side note: I'm sincerely beginning to think that according to most preteens / teens, more bass = better sound, in all circumstances. I can picture them just gathering around a 2.1 sound system wondering what the point of the 2 monitors are, when the woofer in the middle is the one producing all the killer bass....)
Clearly this is Monster Cable Products first attempt at headphones and to be honest, they fail miserably.
Those who think Beats are a great pair clearly haven't heard anything from Grado, Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, AKG, and honestly...dare I say it... even Sony.
For example, Sennheiser can produce a pair of headphones that require no batteries, are lighter than the Beats, and has far more accurate sound quality,... all for about $100 less (The HD25-II Pictured Above)
So why can't Monster? Oh that's right, its because they're Monster...
*thinks back at the $100 4ft HDMI cable*
Gotta give em credit though, they've certainly managed to convince preteens and teenagers who know nothing about sound quality.
The one plus? Their design. But if thats why you're buying them...
You might as well date a Bleach Blonde Bimbo chick with the IQ of a popsicle stick.
All style, no substance.
But all means if you want to blow $300USD or $349CDN + tax, on sub par sound quality, and the chore of having to continuously replace batteries, then these are the perfect headphones for you.
